Dr Mark Follows
Management of Abnormal Liver Blood Tests
Liver disease is the 5th largest cause of premature mortality in the UK. In England and Wales in 2012 liver disease accounted for 58,000 hospital admissions and 11,000 deaths. We have seen a 500% increase in cirrhosis in 35-55 year old in the last 10 years. The vast majority of liver disease is due to preventable and treatable causes such as alcohol, obesity and viral hepatitis. Early diagnosis and treatment requires Primary Care practitioners to know to manage abnormal liver blood tests. Dr Mark Follows will outline the latest guidelines from the British Society of Gastroenterology along with his own experience to enable GPs, nurses and other practitioners dealing with liver function tests to manage their patients with confidence.
